This place was great. Amazing location and the staff there are very easy to deal with and talk to. The bed had clean sheets and check in and check out was an easy process. They even held my luggage for most of the day before I was able to formally check in. Bathroom was very clean and overall the place had great vibes. I would definitely stay here again next time in town.

I'm glad this place wasn't super busy while I was there this past weekend and confused why it wasn't super busy. First, the staff are excellent! Everybody was friendly, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the lounge area was a great place to hang out, and the location is ideal for anybody making a quick trip to San Diego. Some people might be concerned with the bedrooms and bathrooms being mixed gender. For the bathrooms, each stall and shower is private and lockable. There should be no concerns there. The sinks are out in the open, so it felt like I was having to share that part of the bathroom with a brother or sister. But I also liked that part because it was fun hearing where people were from, hearing their accents and their languages, and sharing stories. The people that stay there are part of the charm too! The inside is bright and cheery. There are bright colors and paintings all over the place. In short, it's the perfect place!
There's tons to do in the area. It's a quick walk to Petco Park. Close proximity to Balboa Park and many other places if you like to walk (like I do), or you can take a quick Uber ride.
*Pardon my excitement. This was my first time staying at a hostel and I'm kicking myself for not having done it sooner in life if they're all like the Gaslamp.

Highly recommended! They took me in after mid-night when I could not find a place to stay in downtown San Diego. Super friendly and helpful people, and a super clean, organized and homy place. I became a repeat customer.

J’ai passé quelques nuit dans cet Hostel au début de mon voyage en Californie et ce fut une très belle découverte. Le quartier est central et très animé, le personnel est très investie et professionnel. Il y a des activités tous les jours et l’ambiance est chaleureuse.

Great location on 5th for exploring town and seafront. Very steep stairs to get into hostel so if you have a lot of luggage be warned. My room at front had double glazing so noise from bars etc not so bad. The relax room gets full as staff use it as a lounge area so fairly full most of the time. It has a TV for movies etc. Breakfast is cereal and tinned fruit which was fine by me. Free tea and coffee. Parking is in a public car park around the corner. You get a pass which discounts the rate considerably.

I'm not a big hostel goer, I sort of aged out of the experience. But I was traveling solo and needed a place to stay one night. They have women's only dorms which were very pleasant. The roommates I talked to were all very nice. The bathrooms were super clean. The rooms were nice and cool and quiet. I was at the front of the building and could hear some of the music from the bars at street level but it was easy to block out with earbuds. I actually slept pretty well except I had a top bunk and woke up a few times when my bunkmate came back. Overall it was a pleasant experience. Bottom bunk would have been more preferred.

I’ve done a lot of traveling in my time and have stayed in countless hostels in many different places around the world and Gaslamp is by far one of my favorites. Looking at the front door from the outside I would have never expected to find what I did when I got inside. It was homey and architecturally unique and wildly colorful and fun. It was so quiet and respectful. The entirety of the staff were so nice and helpful with everything from the moment I checked in to when I left. The bathrooms are spotless at every moment of the day. There is space for everyone to move around freely from their rooms to bathrooms to common areas etc. the entire atmosphere of this place is just a dream. It is smack dad in the middle of Gaslamp district with bars and dance clubs and restaurants infinity if that is your jam, but also quiet inside that you can’t hear the active nightlife outside! Also it’s a few blocks away from the water if you want to explore some local things. Everything is within reach to get to. I really loved my stay here and I know you will too when you choose to visit San Diego! If I’m ever back on this side of the world that’s where I’ll be! Thank you for the lovely experience ?

I must say, this hostel is very beautiful inside and very vintage which I love. Kinda hard to miss outside. The staff is amazing, a 11 out of 10 and the people I meet. Stayed during twitchcon from 9/19 to 9/23 and I will definitely come back esp. where twitchcon is only a 10 min. Walk to the convention center.
