Merci encore Muriel

It was a pleasure getting to know Stefan and Muriel. They introduced us to the Tuscan countryside and we had a fantastic time at the very special La Macia over the past 11 days. Stefan and Muriel have created a beautiful curated bed and breakfast. The cottages are well appointed, quiet, and have everything you could need. We stayed in the back cottage which was quite private. The beds are comfy and the windows are big and bright with a view of the gardens. The kitchen and baths are well thought out with a ton of space. The cottages have an induction range top and fridge, and grocery stores are nearby and easy to navigate. The bathroom has plenty of room to do everything you need to get ready for your day. The flower arrangements and art work make you feel like you are staying at a boutique hotel. The private gardens on the property invite you to linger and explore all that is in season. The pool is a welcomed delight to spend the day at or relax in after the day’s adventure.

From the bed and breakfast you can walk to a real restored castle which is open to the public on Sundays and holidays for you to explore. And, you can easily walk into the town of Stia. They have a wool museum, yummy restaurants (like Filetto’s), amazing water which you can drink out of a fountain in the center of the city, and beautiful blacksmith sculptures throughout the town. The BNB is also an easy train ride to Arezzo which then connects to many other locations. The train station is right in town, with easy parking, and allows you to explore without a car if you’d like. And if you do have access to a car, you can make a day trip to other towns like Poppi, Lucca, Siena, Romena, etc. But believe me, La Macia and the town of Stia-Pratovecchio and surrounding areas has many places to hike, eat, and shop as well. There is something for everyone. You will not run out of places to explore right near the BNB.

I can’t express enough how thankful we are to have found La Macia and to get to know our gracious hosts, Stefan and Muriel. It was difficult to leave on our last day. The trip gave us so much joy and relaxation - we’ll be forever grateful. If you are considering a trip to Tuscany, and want to enjoy the Tuscan charm, amazing food, views, and warm people like a local, head to La Macia - you will not be disappointed.

'Till next time!

La Macia is a beautiful quiet place in the Casentino Valley hold by Muriel and Stefan.
She made the decoration of the both comfortable studios with small kitchens .
She will give you good addresses and Stefan her man will teach you how To cook bread. You can spend a peaceful afternoon at the pool and visit the chickens.
40 km away from Firrenze you can enjoy all the small villages around typical from Tuscany.
We warmly recommand this peaceful place for a resting week.

We had a wonderful time at La Macia Bed and Breakfast, spending a few days of our summer vacation in Tuscany. The cottages are very nice and modern, and especially the one in the back offers lots of privacy. Our 4 year old had a blast exploring the surrounding, enjoying the pool and eating tasty wild cherries straight off the tree (they are tiny, but soo tasty). This place is great for families, but equally so for a romantic getaway without kids.
The best part for us were the hosts Muriel and Stefan - very warm and welcoming. And for breakfast you will be greeted with fresh baked bread, a selection of homemade jams and granola, the best coffee in the world, and some Italian cheeses and charcuterie to dream of.
The area is so beautiful and stress free, with lots of charming small towns, medieval castles and fortresses to explore, and of course endless hiking trails thru enchanted forests. If you want to walk, just about 30ish minutes down the hill from the B&B is a beautiful park along the Arno river, with places to go swimming and an adventure park for older kids and adults (Parco Avventura Adrenalina Casentino). About 10 minutes walk from the park are some cute cafes and restaurants in the town of Stia. We really liked L'Ospitale dei Brilli for coffee and some pastries. Just keep in mind, that many stores and some restaurants in Italy close in the afternoon for a few hours, so check for opening hours ahead of time.
There is also a nice art museum in Stia (Museo dell'Arte della Lana della Fondazione "Luigi e Simonetta Lombard"). If you like fresh river trout, check out Trotocoltura Puccini, a fish farm where you can either buy the fresh fish, or catch it yourself (you will need to cook it yourself). We had some of the best pizza at Atlantic Oil, a micro brewery, which also has great beer in Poppi, two towns over. Poppi has a beautiful old town on top of a hill with the medieval castle Castello dei Conti Guidi and charming restaurants. We really liked the food at La Taverna del Castello and enjoyed some drinks at the cozy Bar Le Stanze (walk all the way to the back and enjoy your drinks or food on a shady balcony, overlooking the area.

We highly recommend La Macia and wish we had more time to stay longer - definitely coming back!
