As others have said this hotel is in a wonderful position overlooking the lake and the ferry stop (with accompanying announcements). I would not want to stay here without a lake view.|The hotel is old, probably from grand tour days and the decor hasn’t changed much. The very tired satin bed cover was dispatched to the corner of the room straightaway. If I seem picky this is with good reason. This is rated 4 stars with commensurate prices but does not justify it. There was no complimentary water in the room and no bath robes; and this was a superior lakeside double with balcony. The shower was modern but unnecessarily complicated to use and there was no bath. |Some further training of the desk staff is necessary. They seemed unwelcoming and a bit surly…no smiles and in spite of lots of people, no visible manager. The porter could give them lessons in customer service…Aramis was a breath of fresh air. |Breakfast was very good with an extensive buffet but eggs had to be ordered. We didn’t have dinner there as the menu looked dull and expensive compared to several restaurants in town. |So in summary, good position but poor value and in need of better management and some redecoration.

Really liked this hotel. We found the staff friendly and professional, the rooms were a decent size and the facilities were good.||We stayed there for a week and had a lake view room on the second floor.||The room was a decent size, and had a lovely view over the town of Menaggio and Lake Como. The king-sized bed was very comfortable, with plenty of covers and lovely pillows.||There was plenty of storage space in the room. ||The room was spotlessly clean on arrival and was thoroughly cleaned every day.||There were two negative points about the room. Firstly, the air conditioning was a little haphazard. Just when you thought you had got it right, leave it to go out and you’d come back to a room either freezing cold or like a sauna! However, upon return to the room and finding it uncomfortable, the air conditioning returned the room to an acceptable temperature.||The other negative about the room was the bathroom, which was long, but very thin, making moving between the shower, toilet, bidet and basin a little challenging. Also, the shower door could not be opened fully meaning that it was a squeeze to get into the shower for people of average build like us. ||The bathroom, like the bedroom, was spotlessly clean.||The breakfast was good, with a good selection of food, eggs cooked to order and a broad selection of wonderful coffees. ||The restaurant snack menu provides meal sizes that are more than snacks, and a selection of sandwiches would have been welcome.||The evening meals in the restaurant were excellent, with a good choice of high quality food, but no local fish from the lake, which was disappointing.||The biggest asset of this hotel is its staff, who, without exception, are professional, helpful and friendly. From the moment you meet the porter, who you cannot help but like, to the moment you check out nothing is too much trouble and every request is met with a smile. ||The hotel is a little dated, but is unsurpassed in its quality of service.

We stayed here for 1 week as part of our wedding vacation and would recommend to anyone looking for a luxury hotel, with a pool, access to the lake and great transportation links. The breakfast buffet is vast and the service is very good. We cannot fault the hotel in any way, our stay was perfect. ||A vast amount of sun loungers available every day too, which was great.||Will definitely return to GHM when we visit Lake Como again and would definitely recommend a room with a lake view. The sun rise in the morning is amazing!

I do not recommend this hotel. The location, views and pool are a are all fabulous. However, I'm sorry to say that's all I can say that was good about our experience at this hotel. My husband and the two other couples with whom we traveled were all very disappointed with our accommodations and experience here. One of the things that drew us to this hotel was the charm of the historic Italian design. While the building itself was interesting, we found the interior throughout was dull, outdated, and had offensive smells that were worsened by strong and constant bombardment of air fresheners that were always present in the common areas and rooms. The staff was reluctant to help, were generally unwelcoming and sometimes down right snooty. We did not feel welcome at any point during our stay. The restaurant had a decent "free" breakfast buffet. However, the food for lunch and dinner (non buffet) was boring, not fresh, tasteless and not what you'd expect it to be. As one example, my pasta with Bolognese sauce tasted suspiciously like Chef Boyardee from a can and the gnocchi was rubbery and bland.|

This hotel is a hidden gem. It is located in Menaggio which, out of the 3, Varenna, Bellagio & Menaggio, is the more quieter town with not as many tourists which for me, was wonderful.||Myself & mum had the train from Milan to Varenna then the ferry across to Menaggio. This hotel is situated right on the lake with their swimming pool literally a step away from the lake. It honestly is wonderful.||The hotel is extremely clean and I am what some people would call a clean freak. So for me to think it’s clean, it really must have been!||We had a lake view room and honestly if you can afford that bit more, you certainly would not be disappointed. To wake up to the sunset rising over the lake was honestly beautiful. The sun sets behind this hotel so being in Menaggio you only see sunrise. You would need to be in Varenna for sunset, however, the ferry’s stop around 20:00 back to Menaggio so not possible to spend an evening in Varenna or Bellagio later than 19:30 ish.||The swimming pool is fabulous with a view of the lake. ||As a vegetarian, the hotel menu wasn’t good at all. Very limited and we were unable to have dinner here due to this. ||Breakfast was absolutely fantastic and, again, having breakfast with the sunrise over the lake was utterly wonderful.||I have extremely high standards and I would return to this hotel in a heartbeat. I was a little worried as some reviews say that the hotel is dated etc so I was really concerned that I was going to turn up and hate it, but although it is dated, it adds character and really gives that old Italian feeling. It is dated but it is not dirty nor ugly. It is modern dated and extremely clean. I loved the Italian character of this hotel.

Hotel needs maintenance, rooms are small for the rather hefty price but location is perfect and staff, polite.|All the carpets in public areas and corridors are very dirty.. see photos… and for example ceiling is cracking in areas of dining room. Not to spend money on cleanliness is either for lack of business (the hotel was full so not that) or lack of willingness to invest! Food was good, service also! Great heated pool.

What else is there to say besides perfection! This hotel has some of the best views of the lake, is centrally located and right beside the ferry and bus! Extremely clean, great breakfast, and fabulous staff! Got engaged in Menaggio staying here and spent our honeymoon here. That’s how great this place is!

I would describe the hotel as dated Italian grand. That’s not a criticism, i personally really enjoyed the hotel and it was exactly as I expected. If you want totally refurbished and fancy, try the Grand Hotel Victoria up the road, but it will cost you at least double. The location is great as the ferry terminal is next door and you can catch a 15 min ferry to both Belagio and Veranna, which are beautiful. The only real problem I had with the hotel was the staff, and specifically the bar staff. They seemed to favour Italian families in the level of service. We had lunch on our last day and 3 out of 5 tables were complaining. Different menus offered depending if your face fitted, and different rules regarding plastic or glass around the pool. I would recommend the hotel but do not stand for shoddy service, ask to see the manager as we did.
